Lead Data Engineer

Job description

We are looking for senior/lead data engineer to work on an intresting project.

Technical Requirements:

Extensive experience with Databricks, Spark (PySpark), and Delta Lake or similar

Advanced SQL (T-SQL/PL-SQL) and deep understanding of Star/Snowflake schemas or similar.

Expert-level Power BI, including for example/similar to: complex DAX, Power Query (M), and Gateway management.

Familiarity with Azure (Data Factory, Synapse) or AWS data stacks.

Experience with CI/CD pipelines, Git version control, and Unit Testing.

AI Fluency

Qualifications:

Experience: 5+ years(preferably more) in data engineering/analytics, with at least a year in a lead or supervisory capacity.

Expectation Management: Experience negotiating project scopes and timelines, ensuring that the „Data Wishlist“ aligns with technical reality and resource constraints.

Requirement Discovery: Skilled at leading discovery workshops to uncover the true business questions behind a data request, rather than just building what is asked for.

Root Cause Analysis: Ability to dive into a broken Power BI report or a failing Databricks job and identify whether the issue lies in the source data, the transformation logic, or the visualization layer.

Scalability Mindset: When faced with a performance bottleneck, you don’t just „fix it“—you redesign the process to ensure it doesn’t happen again as data volume grows.

Decision Frameworks: Confident in making high-stakes „Build vs. Buy“ decisions and defending technical trade-offs (e.g., speed to market vs. long-term code maintainability).

Data Storytelling: Beyond just building charts, you can weave a narrative that explains why the numbers moved and what actions leadership should take next.

Documentation Excellence: A commitment to creating clear technical documentation and user-facing „data dictionaries“ to reduce confusion and democratize data across the company.

Active Mentorship: Ability to provide constructive, empathetic feedback during code reviews and architectural whiteboarding sessions.

Adaptability: Experience thriving in an Agile/Scrum environment, maintaining a calm demeanor when priorities shift mid-sprint.

Presentation: Strong executive presence with the ability to present technical roadmaps to the C-suite.

Key Responsibilities:

Architectural Leadership: Design end-to-end data solutions from ingestion (Medallion architecture) to consumption.

Databricks Mastery or similar: Lead the development of scalable Spark pipelines (Python/SQL) and optimize Delta Lake performance.

Power BI Strategy: Oversee the creation of enterprise-level dashboards, ensuring DAX optimization, RLS (Row-Level Security), and seamless UX.

Advanced SQL Development: Write and tune complex queries for data validation, transformation, and performance troubleshooting.

Mentorship & Code Review: Conduct rigorous code reviews and mentor junior developers to foster a culture of technical excellence.

Stakeholder Management: Translate „business-speak“ into technical requirements and present data findings to executive leadership.
